Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     Gammon Construction Limited and Tsun Fai Construction Engineering Limited were fined $80,000 and $30,000 respectively at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (April 24) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 24, 2021, at a construction site in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. A worker, while taking photos to record the completion of debris-clearing work, fell from a floor opening onto the floor below and was injured. The worker passed away on the same day.
