The delegation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Legislative Council (LegCo) led by the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, continued its visit to Mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) today (April 23) to visit logistics facilities, innovation and technology (I&T) projects, and enterprises in Dongguan and Foshan.

In the morning, Mr Lee and the group of LegCo members led by the President of the LegCo, Mr Andrew Leung, visited the Dongguan Hong Kong International Airport Logistics Park to better understand the development of the logistics park jointly developed by the Dongguan Municipal Government and the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK). Mr Lee said that he was pleased to note that the AAHK and the Dongguan Municipal Government had signed a co-operation framework agreement to implement and foster the long-term development of the "sea-air intermodal cargo transshipment" mode in mid-February this year. Noting that Hong Kong International Airport continued to be the airport with the world's largest cargo throughput last year as shown in the latest data, Mr Lee said that Hong Kong and Dongguan would continue to promote co-operation in logistics connectivity.

Mr Lee and the group then visited the Ox Horn Campus of Huawei, a provider of information and communications technology infrastructure and smart devices, to learn about the company's latest developments and technological research achievements.

At noon, Mr Lee and the group attended a luncheon with Hong Kong business people in Dongguan to learn about their investments and business operations in the city. Mr Lee praised Hong Kong enterprises rooted for years in Dongguan for being pioneers in Hong Kong's integration into the national development. He said he hoped that Hong Kong enterprises would continue to play the bridging role between the two places, and restructure and upgrade their operations, with a view to contributing to the development of the GBA and promoting Hong Kong's integration into the national development.

In the afternoon, Mr Lee departed for Foshan and visited the "city brain" system centre with another group of LegCo members led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, to learn about Foshan's development in applying smart city management technologies. They then visited KUKA Robotics Guangdong Company Limited to learn about the research and production processes of industrial robots. Mr Lee pointed out that Foshan's experience in applying smart city management and the development of the intelligent industrial robot manufacturing industry complement Hong Kong's positioning as an international I&T centre, and the two cities could jointly create a smart city and I&T hub in the GBA.

In the evening, Mr Lee and the group attended a dinner hosted by the Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Secretary of the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee, Mr Zheng Ke; and the Mayor of the Foshan Municipal Government, Mr Bai Tao. Mr Lee said that with Hong Kong's rich experience in commerce, logistics and management, the HKSAR Government would continue to promote and strengthen the collaboration in different industries with GBA Mainland cities.

During their visits in Dongguan and Foshan, the two groups of LegCo members separately visited Modern Dental Technology (Dongguan) Company Limited, Huayang Lake Wetland Park and Jianyuzhou Cultural and Creative Park in Dongguan, as well as Guangdong Bright Dream Robotics Company Limited, Lingnan Tiandi, and the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln in Foshan.

Mr Lee will lead the delegation to continue the last day of its visit in Guangzhou tomorrow (April 24).
