St John Hospital organises interdepartmental disaster drill in preparation of Cheung Chau Bun Festival (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Based on the disaster response plan of St John Hospital (SJH), a disaster drill was conducted in the afternoon ftoday (April 21) on Cheung Chau in collaboration with the Hospital Authority Head Office Major Incident Control Centre, the Fire Services Department, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Government Flying Service, the Auxiliary Medical Service and the Home Affairs Department to enhance the co-ordination and communication among all involved parties during major incidents in addition to familiarising the hospital staff with the procedures during emergencies in the response plan.

The drill simulated a large-scale incident occurring on Cheung Chau with a large number of casualties. The Emergency Medical Team from the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) was also dispatched to the scene to provide immediate support. After triage and initial treatment, the injured were sent to the A&E of SJH and PYNEH respectively for further management.

The drill concluded in about two hours while the hospital services remained normal. The hospital expressed gratitude to over 50 personnel from all involved departments and hospital volunteers for their participation. With the experience gained, the hospital would review and refine the prevailing response mechanism with input from relevant parties.

To prepare for emergencies, SJH will increase manpower in the hospital and enhance clinical support in the A&E on the event day of the Cheung Chau Bun Festival. The HA will also take necessary emergency response measures for resources mobilisation and support.
