Aberdeen Market to resume business from April 26 (with photos)
**************************************************************
A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said today (April 21) that the Aberdeen Market, after overhaul, is ready to commence operation in phases. The majority of the market stalls will start business on April 26 to let tenants and patrons experience the new environment and facilities of the market.

The overhauled Aberdeen Market provides 142 stalls, of which 137 stalls have been successfully let to existing tenants and other eligible persons through auction in February. About 80 stalls, which will be opened on April 26, are distributed over three floors, and the categories of retail commodities for sale include vegetables, fruits, poultry, fresh meat, frozen/chilled meat, and other dry and wet goods, etc. The opening ceremony of the Aberdeen Market will be held on May 19, and more stalls will come into service by that time.

The Aberdeen Market is the pioneering project under the Market Modernisation Programme, with the overhaul works commencing in November 2021. While the progress of the project has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, with the endeavour of the FEHD and the Architectural Services Department, the works were largely completed in March this year, and most of the stall tenants are ready for starting business next week. As for the "Recycling Store" and the cooked food centre that are located inside the building, their services will be commenced progressively after the completion of relevant works.
