STL concludes visit to Beijing (with photos)
********************************************
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung, continued his visit in Beijing today (April 20).

In the morning, Mr Lam visited the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and called on the Director-General of the Department of Exchange and Cooperation, Mr Wu Wei, to brief him on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government's plans and initiatives to strengthen and enhance Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub and international shipping centre. They also exchanged views in various aspects such as transport and logistics development between the Mainland and Hong Kong, city traffic management and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Mr Lam met with the Administrator of the National Railway Administration, Mr Fei Dongbin, in the afternoon. Mr Lam thanked the National Railway Administration for assisting the MTR Corporation Limited and relevant Mainland authorities to complete the trial runs and inspections of high speed trains so that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Express Rail Link (XRL) services could be resumed smoothly. They agreed to continue to work closely in the future to improve the safety supervision of the XRL and continuously enhance the services of the XRL trains and the stations, so that passengers can have an even more comfortable and convenient experience on the XRL. This will also promote deeper and wider exchanges and collaboration in various aspects between people on the Mainland and in Hong Kong.

"This is my first duty visit to Beijing since taking up the post of the Secretary for Transport and Logistics. I am pleased to exchange views with relevant Mainland ministries on various issues such as co-operation in taking forward cross-boundary transport projects and promoting the development of Hong Kong's logistics industry through inter-modal transport by sea, land and air. Through this visit, I hope that there will be more exchanges and closer co-operation with relevant Mainland ministries in the future, and that they will provide support and assistance to the HKSAR Government as they have done in the past, so that Hong Kong can make greater contributions to the development of the country," Mr Lam said.

Mr Lam will return to Hong Kong tonight.
