Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital announced safety incident of hospital facilities

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     ​The spokesman for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (April 11) regarding a hospital facility safety incident:

     A cover device located at the top of an automatic door in a Clinical Oncology Ward in PYNEH, which was used to cover the internal cables panel, fell down when the door was opened and closed this morning and hit a nurse. After medical assessment at the Accident & Emergency Department, the staff has mild pain on the top of the head and no trauma or other significant problem findings. PYNEH is very concerned about the incident and has expressed sympathy to the staff concerned.

      Maintenance staff has arranged emergency repairs immediately and the cause of the incident is under investigation. Inspections of all automatic doors and its accessories of the same model will be conducted by today. The last inspection of the automatic door concerned was conducted in late November last year with no abnormality identified. The incident did not involve structural safety of the building and patient services were not affected. The hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
