Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited and City Construction & Piping Company Limited were fined $90,000 and $130,000 respectively at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (April 6) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 27, 2020, at a construction site at Anderson Road. A worker while carrying out site office dismantling work fell through a floor opening on the first floor down to the ground. The worker sustained multiple injuries and passed away four days later.
