AMS signs MoU with Hong Kong Metropolitan University and presents certificates to Cadet Corps Health Ambassadors (with photos)

     The Auxiliary Medical Service (AMS) and the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today (April 2) to officially launch a series of academic and service collaborations, with a view to nurturing more talents for Hong Kong.
      
     The MoU was signed by the Chief Staff Officer of the AMS, Mr Wong Ying-keung, and the President of the HKMU, Professor Paul Lam, and witnessed by the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung, and the Council Chairman of the HKMU, Dr Conrad Wong.
      
     Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tang said that the HKSAR Government attaches much importance to youth development and the signing of the MoU signifies that the AMS and the HKMU will foster collaboration further in different aspects, especially in the areas of nursing and allied health training, volunteer services and youth services, creating synergies to nurture more talents for Hong Kong.
      
     Dr Wong said he firmly believes that the HKMU, as one of the key education providers for nurturing nursing professionals in Hong Kong, will bring greater benefits to society through its partnership with the AMS.
      
     The AMS and HKMU will promote diversified development of young people through various educational activities including medical and health training, service learning programmes, volunteer services as well as career planning.
      
     On the same day after the signing ceremony, Mr Tang also presented certificates to 266 Health Ambassadors of the AMS Cadet Corps. The certificates were received by five representatives. 
      
     Launched by the AMS Cadet Corps, the Health Awareness and Promotion Programme for Youth (HAPPY) is committed to providing whole-person development with healthcare as core for its cadets. The topics include healthcare, personal and public health, adverse effects of drugs, tobacco and alcohol, infection control as well as health education. Furthermore, the programme also includes training on leadership skill, basic etiquette, civic education, national security education and so on. Upon completion of the designated training, a cadet will be awarded a certificate and become a Health Ambassador, representing the AMS to disseminate messages on health and hygiene to the public.
