The Government announced today (March 31) the appointment of Mr Tang King-shing as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (HKSIL) with effect from April 1, 2023.

The term of appointment of the Chairman of the Board of Directors will be for two years from April 1, 2023 until March 31, 2025.

The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, said, "I look forward to working closely with Mr Tang to enable elite sports in Hong Kong to scale new heights.

"With his extensive leadership experience and well-proven credentials serving both within and outside the Government, as well as his passion in promoting and supporting sports development, I have no doubt that Mr Tang will make invaluable contributions to the work and development of the HKSIL," he said.

Mr Yeung also highly commended and thanked the incumbent chairman, Dr Lam Tai-fai, for his dedication and contributions in steering and advancing elite sports development. Dr Lam joined the HKSIL Board in 2009 and has served as its Chairman since April 2017. Dr Lam has all along been a staunch supporter of the development of elite sports, and HKSIL athletes achieved the best ever results for Hong Kong in the Tokyo Olympic Games under his chairmanship. During his tenure, he strongly supported the development of a new facilities building for the HKSIL, as well as enhanced resources dedicated to sports science and sports medicine to strengthen the competitiveness of Hong Kong athletes and help them better prepare for major international sports events in the coming few years. He believes that Dr Lam will continue supporting Hong Kong sports development in various positions.

The HKSIL is the organisation responsible for training elite athletes on behalf of the Government. Its mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena. In addition to sports facilities, the HKSIL's comprehensive support for athletes includes elite coaching and training, sports science, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, athlete affairs and education, as well as sports research information.
