Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North today (March 30) in which a 39-year-old man died.

     At 4.24am, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 46-year-old man was travelling along North Lantau Highway towards airport. When approaching Citygate, it reportedly rammed into a MGV driven by a 53-year-old man.

     A taxi driven by a 39-year-old man failed to brake and rammed into the MGV driven by the 46-year-old man subsequently. After the impact, the taxi caught fire. Firemen put out the fire and found the dead body of the 39-year-old driver in the taxi.

     The 46-year-old MGV driver sustained injuries on his chest and was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in conscious state.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
