Cluster of Influenza A cases in Princess Margaret Hospital

The spokesperson for Princess Margaret Hospital made the following announcement today (March 29):
Three patients (aged 72 to 94) with chronic diseases of a male medical and geriatric ward in Lai King Building had presented with respiratory symptoms since March 26. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A. Two patients are under isolation with critical and serious condition respectively while the other patient has passed away due to underlying medical conditions.
Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
