CSD launches multi-purpose family and rehabilitation service centre in Sha Tin (with photos)

     The Correctional Services Department (CSD) officially launched its multi-purpose family and rehabilitation service centre in Sha Tin today (March 27) to further strengthen its psychological and counselling services for rehabilitated offenders and their families, as well as video social visit services for families of persons in custody.

     The Chairman of the Committee on Community Support for Rehabilitated Offenders (CCSRO), Ms Tsui Li; the Honorary Advisors of the CCSRO, Mr Lau Hon-wah and Mr Siu Chor-kee; and the Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Wong Kwok-hing, officiated at the launching ceremony of the service centre.

     The service centre in Sha Tin is the fourth new multi-purpose family and rehabilitation service centre set up by the department. The service centre features a "ReConnect" Hub, representing reconnection with oneself, family and community, where the department's clinical psychologists will provide a series of psychological services for adult supervisees through diverse psychological programmes and family-based psychological services to help rehabilitated offenders lead a positive life, regain self-confidence, rebuild a harmonious family relationship and reintegrate into society with a positive attitude. In addition, clinical psychologists organise "Break-through" activities to enable rehabilitated offenders to share their successful rehabilitation experience with persons in custody via video conferencing, which will help participants rebuild a positive outlook on life after release.

     To strengthen the connection between persons in custody and their relatives and friends, the service centre also provides video social visit arrangements, so that visitors who are unable to visit correctional institutions due to old age, pregnancy, disabilities or other special reasons can make an appointment for a video visit.

     Together with the service centre in Sha Tin launched today, the CSD currently operates five multi-purpose family and rehabilitation service centres to provide psychological and counselling services for rehabilitated offenders and their families, as well as video social visit services for families of persons in custody. The other four centres are located in Mong Kok, Shau Kei Wan, Sheung Shui and Tuen Mun.

     The Sha Tin service centre, located at Tower 2, Grand Central Plaza, Sha Tin, is open six days a week (except Wednesdays) from 8.30am to 5.30pm, and relatives and friends of persons in custody can make video visits at pre-booked time slots.
