23 building plans approved in January

     The Buildings Department approved 23 building plans in January, with four on Hong Kong Island, 10 in Kowloon and nine in the New Territories.
 
     Of the approved plans, 15 were for apartment and apartment/commercial developments, five were for commercial developments, two were for factory and industrial developments, and one was for community services development.
 
     In the same month, consent was given for works to start on nine building projects which, when completed, will provide 117 013 square metres of gross floor area for domestic use involving 2 755 units, and 144 989 sq m of gross floor area for non-domestic use. The department has received notification of commencement of superstructure works for five building projects.
 
     The department also issued 17 occupation permits, with six on Hong Kong Island, three in Kowloon and eight in the New Territories.
 
     Of the buildings certified for occupation, the gross floor area for domestic use was 152 580 sq m involving 3 178 units, and 35 955 sq m was for non-domestic use.
 
     The declared cost of new buildings completed in January totalled about $7.4 billion.
 
     In addition, seven demolition consents involving seven building structures were issued.
 
     The department received 1 967 reports about unauthorised building works (UBWs) in January and issued 285 removal orders on UBWs.
