Hospital Authority announces the condition of hospital facilities

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesman for the Hospital Authority made the following announcement today (March 17) on the condition of facilities in public hospitals:

     One piece of false ceiling in the Central Sterile Supplies Department located at the lower ground floor of Pok Oi Hospital main block fell down this afternoon. Maintenance staff has arranged emergency repairs. After inspection, it was believed that the incident was caused by the displacement of false ceiling due to water seepage at a drainage pipe.
      
     A segment of a false ceiling at the corridor of Accident & Emergency Department of the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital fell down this afternoon. Maintenance staff has arranged emergency repairs and after inspection, it was believed that the incident was caused by the displacement of false ceiling due to water seepage at a water pipe.
      
     Besides, a ceiling light cover at a staff toilet of Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) fell down this morning. Maintenance staff has arranged emergency inspection. As a precautionary measure, some ceiling light covers inside the staff toilet have been removed. To ensure the safety of staff members, KCH has also requested maintenance staff to conduct urgent inspection of all similar installations in the hospital.
      
     A ward in the South Wing of Block B of Yan Chai Hospital was undergoing renovation work. A worker of Term Maintenance Contractor accidentally cut off a fresh water pipe at dusk yesterday, causing water seepage in some wards and the corridor. The hospital immediately closed the water pipe valve and conducted cleaning which was completed by yesterday evening. In addition, renovation works including replacement of the false ceiling cardboard at the lobby of Block B is also undergoing, which is not related to the inspection project of the building structure or the incident of accidental cutting off of the water pipe. 
      
     No patients or staff were injured in the incidents and patient services were not affected. All incidents did not involve structural safety of the building. The hospitals have reported the incidents to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
