Six persons sentenced for violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation

     Six persons were sentenced by the Magistrates' Courts today (March 16) for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A).

     The first two cases involved two women aged 59 and 53, who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, they left the place of isolation on August 17 and September 19 last year respectively. The 59-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of the Regulation and was fined $8,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 53-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of the Regulation and was fined $10,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today.

     The other four cases involved four men aged 57, 26, 66 and 29 who were earlier issued with compulsory quarantine orders. Before the expiry of the quarantine orders, they left the place of quarantine on July 11, August 27, November 4 and November 8 last year respectively. The 57-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 22(1), (4) and (6) of the Regulation and was fined $5,000 by the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today. The 26-year-old man and the 66-year-old man were charged with contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of the Regulation and was fined $2,000 and $3,500 respectively by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today. The 29-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 22(1), (4) and (6) of the Regulation and was fined $5,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today.
