FEHD and Mainland experts share experiences of rodent prevention and control (with photos)

     A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said today (March 16) that two experts from the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention were invited to visit Hong Kong for sharing experiences and deliberating with government departments and trade members on the latest developments in rodent prevention and control work. The experts inspected the anti-rodent work in various locations including rear lanes, public markets, parks and public housing estates, to learn more about the rodent prevention and control measures adopted in different circumstances in Hong Kong and to share their experiences.

     To further enhance the methods and techniques of rodent prevention and control in Hong Kong, the FEHD, from time to time, invites various experts and relevant organisations all around the world to visit Hong Kong for experience exchange. Deputy director Mr Lin lifeng and chief physician Mr Yi Jianrong of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention came to Hong Kong on invitation, and participated in the seminar on rodent prevention and control co-organised by the FEHD, the Pest Control Personnel Association of Hong Kong, and the School of Professional and Continuing Education, the University of Hong Kong today.

     During their visit in Hong Kong, the experts went to Yeung Uk Road Market in Tsuen Wan to inspect the deployment of wireless motion sensors, rodent traps, bait boxes, etc, through the application of Internet of Things solutions by the FEHD and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. They also visited Tuen Mun District to learn more about the anti-rodent work and application of thermal camera monitoring system, and shared their experiences of stepping up the monitoring of rodent infestation as well as rodent prevention and control work.

     The FEHD has all along adopted multipronged strategies for rodent prevention and control, and reviews from time to time the rodent prevention and disinfestation methodologies and techniques having regard to the latest developments and research results overseas and on the Mainland. The FEHD shares its experiences with experts around the world to keep abreast of the latest information on rodent prevention and control, and to ensure that the methodologies and techniques adopted by the department are in line with international initiatives.
