HKCH announces incident of battery malfunction in backup electrical room

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH) made the following announcement today (March 15).

     At around 2.30pm today, smoke came out from two batteries in the backup electrical room located between G/F and 1/F of Tower B of HKCH. The smoke subsequently cleared and the fire alarm system was not activated. After examination, the batteries concerned were immediately removed. The hospital's power supply or patient service was not affected by the incident. Evacuation was not required and there was no report of people feeling sick. As a precautionary measure, firemen were called to the scene to help inspect the venue.

     The other batteries have been examined. The hospital will continue to investigate the incident.
