Five persons sentenced for violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation

     Five persons were sentenced by the Magistrates' Courts today (March 14) for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A).

     The first two cases involved a 55-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, who were earlier issued with compulsory quarantine orders. Before the expiry of the quarantine orders, they left the place of quarantine on July 11 and 15 last year respectively. They were charged with contravening sections 22(1), (4) and (6) of the Regulation and were each fined $4,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today. 

     The other three cases involved a 38-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a 25-year-old man who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, the 38-year-old woman left the place of isolation on July 22 last year, whereas the 49-year-old man and the 25-year-old man left the place of isolation and removed their electronic wristbands on August 2 and November 23 last year respectively. The 38-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of the Regulation and was fined $8,000 by the Shatin Magistrates' Courts today. The 49-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (4) and (5) and sections 32(1) and (3) of the Regulation and was fined a total of $16,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 25-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) and sections 23(1), (4) and (5) of the Regulation and was sentenced to imprisonment for two weeks, suspended for 12 months for each of the two charges with the sentences to run concurrently, by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today.
