New York ETO hosts "Empowered Women, Empowering Women" lunch reception (with photos)

     To celebrate International Women's Day, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY) co-organised a lunch reception themed "Empowered Women, Empowering Women" on March 8 (New York time) with the China General Chamber of Commerce - USA (CGCC).

     The event attracted more than 40 women leaders from think tanks, the business community, creative industry and sports sector in New York. The Chairwoman of the Women's Commission in Hong Kong, Ms Chan Yuen-han, and the Deputy Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Mr Nick Au Yeung, who were in the city for the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, joined the reception as special guests.

     In her welcoming remarks, the HKETONY Director, Ms Candy Nip, said that Hong Kong is proud to participate in this important women's forum of the United Nations. Our city has a compelling commitment to promoting gender equality and women empowerment in the society. 

     "It is our honour to host this event, celebrating inspiration women bring to the world, and celebrating the unique role women play in global advancement. Women leaders joining us today are distinguished and influential figures in their respective fields. They are walking testimony of what women can achieve," she added.

     The lunch reception featured a conversation about women empowerment with renowned fashion designer Vivienne Tam; the Executive Vice President of Global Partnerships of NBA team Brooklyn Nets, Ms Catherine Carlson; the Senior Vice President of Bank of China, Ms Catherine Feng; and Mr Au Yeung. The Chairman of the CGCC cum President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of China, USA, Mr Hu Wei, and Vice Chair of the CGCC cum Chairwoman of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China US Region Management Committee, Ms Zhang Jianyu, also spoke at the event.
