Three persons sentenced for violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation

     Three persons were sentenced by the Magistrates' Courts today (March 8) for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A).

     The first two cases involved a 65-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman. They had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, the 65-year-old man left the place of isolation and removed his electronic wristband on August 17 last year, whereas the 36-year-old woman left the place of isolation on November 3 last year. The 65-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) and sections 23(1), (4) and (5) of the Regulation and was fined a total of $20,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 36-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of the Regulation and was fined $2,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today.

     ​The third case involved a 46-year-old man. He was earlier issued a Notification of Medical Surveillance which subjected him to medical surveillance according to specified conditions. Before the expiry of the medical surveillance, he failed to observe the specific conditions and left the place of accommodation on April 25 last year. He was charged with contravening sections 15(1), (2) and (3) of the Regulation and was bound over for 24 months with a recognisance of $2,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today.
