Five persons sentenced for violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation

     Five persons were sentenced by the Magistrates' Courts today (March 2) for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A).

     The first four cases involved a 51-year-old woman and three men aged 48, 47 and 56. They had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, they left the place of isolation on October 21, November 24, August 4 and November 20 last year respectively. The 51-year-old woman and the 48-year-old man were charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of the Regulation and were each fined $10,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts. The 47-year-old man was charged with two counts of contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of the Regulation and was fined a total of $6,000 by the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts. The 56-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of the Regulation and was fined $10,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts.

     ​The fifth case involved a 47-year-old woman, who was earlier issued with a compulsory quarantine order. Before the expiry of the quarantine order, she breached her quarantine order on July 1 last year. She was charged with contravening sections 22(1), (4) and (6) of the Regulation and was fined $6,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts.
