******************************************************************************************
The Good Citizen Award (GCA) 2022 cum 50th Anniversary Presentation Ceremony organised by the Hong Kong Police Force was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre today (February 26). Eighty citizens were commended for assisting the Force in fighting crime and maintaining law and order. Besides, a total of seven organisations were awarded with Good Organisation Award to recognise their efforts in supporting the Police’s crime prevention works.

In his welcoming speech, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Siu Chak-yee, noted that the GCA scheme introduced in 1973, had been implemented for half a century. He attributed the success of the scheme to the support of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), the Fight Crime Committee, and good people with good deeds.

Mr Siu added that the GCA scheme has been revamped over the past two years, and the Force has drawn together the GCA awardees to form a "Good Citizen Alliance" to promote "Good Citizen" spirit in schools, organisations and community. Featuring the theme of "Inheritance" this year, Mr Siu expressed the hope that the scheme could pass on the "Good Citizen Spirit" to the future generations.

Also officiating at the ceremony, the Chairman of the HKGCC, Mrs Betty Yuen felt honoured to have witnessed the 50th Anniversary of GCA Award. She hoped that the business sector, the Police, and members of the public could continue to join hands to safeguard law and order in Hong Kong. She also commended the awardees for their contribution in assisting the Police to prevent and detect crimes. Member of the Fight Crime Committee, Mr Chan Siu-tong, said it was particularly meaningful that he was invited to be one of the officiating guests, sharing that he was a GCA awardee in 2003 by assisting the Police to subdue the culprit in a case of assault with intent to rob. He praised the GCA recipients as role models for citizens with their selfless devotion.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the GCA scheme, Dr Elizabeth Wang Ming-chun, being one of the guests of the first GCA Presentation Ceremony, was invited to officiate the presentation ceremony this year. Dr Wang recalled the event 50 years ago, and she hoped that the next generation would continue to join hands with the Police in fighting crime. The other officiating guest, international movie star Mr Donnie Yen, who had played different hero roles on the big screen, said he was proud of the awardees for their braveness and righteousness, praising them as real heroes. He also affirmed the contribution of the Police Force in maintaining stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.

The 80 good citizens were awarded for assisting the Police in preventing or detecting cases including theft, fraud, and indecent assault. There were also awardees who made their contributions in life-saving. The awardee of the "Good Citizen of the Year Award" (GCYA), Ms Debby Kong found a girl fell accidentally into the sea while she was fishing. She saved the girl’s life and comforted her while waiting for the Police to arrive on the scene, which fully demonstrated caring and love.

The GCA Presentation Ceremony 2022 is co-organised by the Public Relations Wing of Hong Kong Police Force and the Fight Crime Committee, and sponsored by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. Each of the awardees received a certificate and $3,000. The GCYA recipient would be presented a plaque and $4,000. More than 4,500 citizens have been commended over the years.

Featuring the theme of "Inheritance" and the element of "time travelling", a four-episode special series "Big Big Good Citizen World", was launched. Four ex-GCA awardees in the past 50 years had been located by the production team to share their good citizen stories in each episode, illustrating the inheritance of "Good Citizen Spirit".

The Good Citizen Award Exhibition will be held after the presentation ceremony, showcasing the history of GCA scheme. There will also be game booths and photo booths with "Good Citizen Alliance" figures, as well as distribution of vintage-style souvenirs, to promote the "Good Citizen Spirit" in the community. The roving exhibition will start at YOHO MALL in Yuen Long, where it be held from tomorrow (February 27) to March 5.
