Addition of railway station at Hung Shui Kiu gazetted
*****************************************************
The Government published in the Gazette today (February 24) the railway scheme in relation to the addition of a railway station at Hung Shui Kiu (HSK Station) in accordance with the Railways Ordinance (Cap. 519).

The HSK Station is one of the seven recommended railway schemes under the Railway Development Strategy 2014. It will be constructed between the existing Tin Shui Wai Station and Siu Hong Station of the Tuen Ma Line to serve residents of the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area (HSK/HT NDA) and nearby areas.

A Government spokesman said, "The HSK Station will provide direct railway linkage to/from HSK/HT NDA, promoting the railway-based public transport development. Currently, residents rely on road-based transport to commute between HSK/HT NDA and Tin Shui Wai Station or Siu Hong Station, which takes about 20 to 25 minutes. With the commissioning of the HSK Station, the travel time for the same journey by railway will be greatly reduced to about four minutes."

The Government and the MTR Corporation Limited consulted the Yuen Long District Council and the Tuen Mun District Council on the HSK Station project earlier and met and communicated with the relevant Rural Committees and local residents for their suggestions and concerns about the project. Various publicity activities were also held to collect public views on the project. The construction works of the proposed HSK Station will commence soon after the authorisation of the scheme and are expected to be completed by 2030.

Under the Railways Ordinance, members of the public have the right to lodge objections to the railway scheme in relation to the HSK Station from today until April 25, 2023. Any person who has a compensatable interest can claim compensation under the provisions of the Ordinance.

The scheme and the relevant plans are available for public inspection at the Central and Western Home Affairs Enquiry Centre, the Yuen Long Home Affairs Enquiry Centre, the Tuen Mun Home Affairs Enquiry Centre, the District Lands Office, Yuen Long, and the District Lands Office, Tuen Mun, during office hours.

A copy of the scheme and the plans may be purchased from the Railway Development Office of the Highways Department (HyD). For details, please call the HyD at 2762 3976.
