Three persons sentenced for violating anti-epidemic regulations

     Three persons were sentenced by the Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (February 17) for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A) or the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F).
 
     The first case involved a 36-year-old man, who had a positive test result for COVID-19 on October 18 last year. During the period when a Red Code was displayed in his Vaccine Pass, he left his place of isolation on October 23 and 24, and entered a scheduled premises under Cap. 599F on October 24. He was charged with two counts of contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of Cap. 599A and one count of contravening sections 9AA(1) and (2) of Cap. 599F. He was fined a total of $10,000 by the Fanling Magistrates' Courts.
 
     The second case involved a 60-year-old man, who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and was issued with an isolation order. Before the end of the isolation period, he left the place of isolation on July 22 and 23 last year. He was charged with two counts of contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of Cap. 599A and was fined a total of $10,000 by the Fanling Magistrates' Courts.
 
     The third case involved a 58-year-old woman, who was earlier issued with a compulsory quarantine order. Before the expiry of the quarantine order, she left the place of quarantine on August 22 last year. She was charged with contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of Cap. 599A and was fined $5,000 by the Fanling Magistrates' Courts.
 
     The spokesman for the Department of Health said that co-operation of and support by members of the public play a critical role in the anti-epidemic work. They must strictly observe relevant requirements in order to fight the pandemic and minimise the risk of transmission in the community. The spokesman reiterated that resolute action will be taken against anyone who has breached the relevant regulations.
