COVID-19 vaccination programme enters new phase at end of this month
********************************************************************
The COVID-19 Vaccination Programme is entering a new phase. Community Vaccination Centres (CVC) located at the Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre, the MTR Tsing Yi Station and the Millennium City 5 will operate until noon on February 28 and be closed afterwards. The vaccination programme will take public and private medical facilities as prime vaccination venues under the new mode of operation.

Vaccination service of the paediatric and toddler formulations of the BioNTech vaccines at the Children Community Vaccination Centre (CCVC) of the Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre will be provided by Yan Chai Hospital COVID-19 Vaccination Station starting from March 1.

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, said, "Over 20.67 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered for members of the public under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme. We are very grateful to the public's support for the programme, allowing the city to keep progressing along the path to normalcy steadily thanks to the high vaccination rates. Today, the vaccination rates for the second and third doses across the territory are 93 per cent and 84 per cent respectively, which is a result of the joint efforts of every member of the public who took part in the programme.

"The CVC at the Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre is one of the first batch of CVCs that commenced service in 2021, and also the last CVC situated at the arena of a sports centre. After accomplishing its mission, the CVC would be returned to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for public use alongside the earlier closure of nine other large-scale CVCs situated at sports centres."

She also expressed her appreciation to Sun Hung Kai Properties and the MTR Corporation Limited for lending the venues for free to facilitate the establishment of the CVCs at the Millennium City 5 and the MTR Tsing Yi Station in a short period of time, enabling more members of the public to gain protection conferred by the vaccine.

Since September last year, the Government has gradually consolidated the service network and adopted a more flexible and more cost-effective strategy involving collaboration with private medical organisations, making good use of different venues to set up Community Vaccination Stations (CVSs) or Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations (PCVSs) at locations with convenient transportation or high patronage, and providing vaccination service with more than one kind of vaccine at one vaccination venue. The Government will make further adjustments to the vaccination services and venues in light of the latest development of the epidemic and demand for vaccination.

After the closure of the above three CVCs, other vaccination venues including CVSs, PCVSs, COVID-19 Vaccination Stations in public hospitals (HCVSs), designated general outpatient clinics of the Hospital Authority, Elderly Health Centres, Maternal and Child Health Centres and Student Health Service Centres of the Department of Health (DH), together with some 1 000 private doctors providing COVID-19 vaccination service, will continue to provide vaccination service for Hong Kong residents.

Meanwhile, starting from March 1, all CVSs, HCVSs and CCVCs will have the same opening hours from 10am to 6pm on their operation days.

Starting from February 27, the HCVS in Ruttonjee Hospital will be relocated to Tang Shiu Kin Hospital (Address: G/F, Tang Shiu Kin Hospital, 282 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai) where vaccination service with the Biotech vaccine (ancestral strain vaccine/ bivalent vaccine) or the Sinvoac vaccine will be provided.

Mrs Yeung said, "The virus still exists in the community. As Hong Kong has entered a new phase of epidemic response, members of the public should receive suitable doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for the sake of their health and to safeguard the health of their families, in particular the elderly and young children who are at a higher risk."
