Investigation report on turbulence accident involving injured cabin crew published

At about noon on the day of the accident, the aircraft was enroute from Beijing to Hong Kong and encountered severe turbulence at the Nansha District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The aircraft later landed safely at Hong Kong International Airport. In the accident, one of the cabin crew sustained a lower leg injury and was conveyed to hospital for medical treatment.
The investigation was conducted by a team of professional investigators in strict adherence to international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The investigation concluded that the accident was caused by unexpectedly severe turbulence during the aircraft's descent into Hong Kong. The investigation team has made one safety recommendation to Hong Kong Airlines Limited.
"The objective of the investigation was to identify the circumstances and causes of the accident with a view to preventing a recurrence," an AAIA spokesperson said.

The AAIA is an independent investigation authority responsible for the investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents in accordance with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation (Investigation of Accidents) Regulations (Cap. 448B) and with reference to the ICAO's standards.
