Open auctions of market stalls in overhauled Aberdeen Market to be held on February 16
**************************************************************************************
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today (February 7) that open auctions for a total of 93 market stalls in the overhauled Aberdeen Market will be held on February 16 at the Youth Square at 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan. Details have been uploaded to the FEHD website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/pleasant_environment/tidy_market/open_auction_coming.html).

The overhaul of the Aberdeen Market is a pioneering project of the Market Modernisation Programme, with multiple modernised facilities and management arrangements introduced. After the completion of the overhaul works, the categories of retail commodities allowed for sale in stalls of the Aberdeen Market cover fresh meat, chilled pork, chilled poultry, fish, siu mei and/or lo mei, cooked food, fruits, vegetables, food-related dry or wet goods, non-food related dry or wet goods, etc. Like other public market stalls for open auction, the tenancy agreement is a three-year fixed term, with no right of automatic renewal upon expiry of the tenancy agreement. However, signing of new tenancy agreement can be arranged upon mutual agreement. The upset prices of the monthly rent of the stalls depend on the sizes and locations of the individual stalls, and are available at the FEHD website.

The overhauled market is expected to re-open in the end of March, and the FEHD will announce the exact date for opening of the market for business in due course. The tenancy will take effect from March 1 to facilitate decoration and other preparation works by the tenants, and the rent of that month will be adjusted according to the opening date of the market.

A spokesman for the FEHD said, "Persons at least 18 years old and ordinarily residing in Hong Kong are welcomed to attend the open auctions. To allow more people to bid for the stalls and increase customer choices by enhancing the diversity in terms of the variety of stalls, any person shall only be allowed to bid for one stall in the Aberdeen Market. The terms and conditions of the auctions have been uploaded to the FEHD website, with details of qualifications of the bidders listed."

Limited seats for the open auctions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration and issue of admission tickets of the auction will be arranged 30 minutes prior to the commencement of each auction. Persons who want to attend the auctions must wait at the waiting area of the auction venue and produce their Hong Kong identity card or passport for registration. The registered person will then be provided with an admission ticket for the auction. In addition, eligible bidders after verification will be issued with a bidding paddle for the auction. The FEHD has also invited representatives of the Police, the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Competition Commission to monitor the auctions at the auction venue, in order to ensure that the open auctions are conducted in an orderly and fair manner.

Persons interested in the auction may visit the Aberdeen Market in advance from 9.30am to 4.45pm on February 14. Persons under the age of 18 will not be allowed to enter. The FEHD will start issuing admission tickets (a total of eight touring sessions with a total of 240 admission tickets), on a first-come, first-served basis, at the Main Entrance on G/F of Aberdeen Municipal Services Building, 203 Aberdeen Main Road, at 9am of February 14. Each person will be issued with one ticket and is allowed to select one touring session only. Participants are required to enter the market according to the respective sessions selected by them, and adhere to the safety rules concerned.
