United Christian Hospital announces incident of loss of patient data

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     ​The spokesman for United Christian Hospital (UCH) made the following announcement today (January 19) regarding an incident of loss of patient data:

     A UCH psychiatric nurse discovered the loss of a non-encrypted mobile phone today morning and it contains identifiable personal data including name and telephone number of 82 patients, some also included the address and phone number of their family members.

     The staff concerned immediately informed the hospital and conducted a search but in vain, and reported the case to the Police this afternoon.

     UCH is very concerned about the incident and has reported the case to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data and the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.

     UCH is currently contacting all concerned patients and their families individually to inform them of the incident and to express apology. The incident would not affect their treatment and care.

     The hospital expressed apology to the patients and families affected and have reminded our staff again on the guidelines of safekeeping and handling patients' records.
