Transcript of remarks by SCST at media session
**********************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, at a media session after attending the welcoming ceremony for Silver Spirit today (January18):

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism: Today, we are very excited about the visiting of an international cruise to Hong Kong after three years of pandemic. It is a very important milestone to us along the road of recovery. We will work hard with the Tourism Board to do a lot of promotion work in order to attract more tourists coming to Hong Kong.

For the cruise tourism, we will also work with the GBA (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area) cities and we will also make Hong Kong a port for the cruise industry, as a starting port and a station in the Mainland route of the cruises.

Reporter: As the tourism industry is recovering, except it is recovering at a very slow pace, when do you expect it to recover to the pre-pandemic level?

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism: With the gradual opening of Hong Kong, and the relaxing of social distancing measures, we will be seeing tourists coming back to Hong Kong because we have new tourist attractions. Over the years, we have developed different tourist packages, like the cultural and heritage routes, so we are confident that tourists will be coming back. What the pace will be, when there will be a lot of tourists coming back, whether that will be reaching the level before the pandemic - it depends on a lot of things, but we are confident that we will get back the tourists very soon.
