Speech by SCST at Opening Ceremony of 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships (English only)
******************************************************************************************
Following is the speech by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, at the Opening Ceremony of 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships today (January 9):

Ms Lau (Chairman of Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, Ms Vivien Lau), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening, everyone. I am delighted to join you all here at the Opening Ceremony of the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships, and to extend my warmest welcome to all bowlers and guests from near and far.

The Championships is a signature bowling event and Hong Kong is proud to play host for the sixth time. After a span of three years, this is indeed a valuable opportunity for us to reinforce our status as a sports events capital and to boost interest in the sport amongst the public. Top-notch bowlers across Asia will converge and go head-to-head with their counterparts, striving to prove their mettle on the bowling alley. I am sure the coming nine days will be filled with excitement and intensity that bowling participants have been eagerly waiting for.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress for its efforts and remarkable contribution in promoting tenpin bowling in Hong Kong. The Government will continue to provide full support to the Congress to take the sport to new heights.

I wish the Championships a resounding success and all bowlers the best of luck. Thank you.
