Handover Ceremony of Central Government-Aided Emergency Hospital and Mobile Cabin Facility is held (with photo)

     The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, attended the Handover Ceremony of the Central Government-Aided Emergency Hospital and Mobile Cabin Facility held in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Shenzhen concurrently in the afternoon today (December 30). He signed with the Shenzhen Municipal Government a memorandum of handover and collaboration on details of collaboration upon the handover of the facilities. Also attending the ceremony were the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai; the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung; the Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau; the Secretary for Development, Ms Bernadette Linn; the Director of Health, Dr Ronald Lam; and the Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority, Dr Tony Ko.

     Mr Chan; the Executive Vice-Governor of the Guangdong Provincial Government, Mr Zhang Hu; and the Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Mr Qin Weizhong, together with other attending officials in their respective venues for the ceremony, first watched an introductory video on the Emergency Hospital and Mobile Cabin Facility to understand the operation of the facilities and the challenges encountered during construction. Mr Chan and Mr Qin then signed the memorandum of handover and collaboration on behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Shenzhen Municipal Government respectively. The signing signified the formal handover of the Emergency Hospital and Mobile Cabin Facility to the HKSAR Government for operation and management.

     On behalf of the HKSAR Government, Mr Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Central Government, the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government for their staunch assistance to Hong Kong's anti-epidemic work. He said that the successful handover of the Emergency Hospital and Mobile Cabin Facility fully demonstrated the care of the Central Government and Mainland people for Hong Kong citizens. He added that the HKSAR Government had full confidence in Hong Kong, with the strong support from the motherland and the concerted effort from various sectors of society, continuing to make steady progress along the path towards normality with greater impetus injected into economic and livelihood activities.

     The Emergency Hospital and Mobile Cabin Facility located in the Lok Ma Chau Loop were commissioned for construction by the Central Government during the fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong. The relevant bureaux and departments of the HKSAR Government will continue on-site technical interfacing with their Mainland counterparts to make suitable preparations and arrangements for the facilities.
