Island North promenade extended with new harbourfront sites in Wan Chai and Fortress Hill (with photos)

Facing north to Victoria Harbour, the Water Sports and Recreation Precinct (Phase 3) is located on Hung Hing Road, adjacent to the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the rental office of pedal-driven boats. Together with Phases 1 and 2 which had been opened earlier, the whole area forms a precinct of about 1.3 hectares in size. In the newly opened area, facilities such as outdoor chairs and tables, shelters, catering facilities, washrooms, baby caring rooms and shower facilities, as well as a multi-functional activity space are provided for visitors and will facilitate the hosting of more water and land activities.
A spokesman for the Development Bureau said, "On catering facilities, we have introduced a floating restaurant, which is the first of its kind in harbourfront shared space, to provide different dining options. It will be docked at the waterbody of the Water Sports and Recreation Precinct and will mainly be used for banquets and events. There is also an onshore restaurant of about 300 square metres in the newly opened area. Visitors may dine indoors, or at the rooftop and alfresco dining areas where they can enjoy the wonderful view of the Victoria Harbour."
The spokesman added, "Various water and land facilities and activities at the habourfront introduced in recent years, such as pedal-driven boats, the 'Kids' Driving Tour along the Harbour' and other water and land activities, brought in a large number of visitors. With the improved accessibility to the promenade in Wan Chai following the opening of the MTR Exhibition Centre Station, we hope the newly added facilities would attract more visitors to the promenade and enhance their experience at the harbourfront."
Members of the public can get to the Water Sports and Recreation Precinct (Phase 3) by walking for about five minutes either from Wan Chai Ferry Pier along Hung Hing Road, or from Exit A2 of the MTR Exhibition Centre Station. It can also be accessed on foot in about nine minutes from Exit C of the MTR Causeway Bay Station via the Canal Road West Flyover.
The East Coast Park Precinct (Phase 1a), located to the west of Hing Fat Street and at the southern side of the opened precinct (Phase 1), has an area of around 1 300 sq m and a 65 metre-long promenade with recreational facilities. Upon the opening of Phase 1a, visitors at East Coast Park Precinct can get to the Revitalised Typhoon Shelter Precinct via the Whitfield Road Rest Garden and Tung Lo Wan Fire Station, improving the connection among the harbourfront sites around Fortress Hill and the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter.
Members of the public can get to the East Coast Park Precinct (Phase 1a) by walking for about eight minutes from the MTR Tin Hau Station, along Electric Road and Wing Hing Street then turning onto Hing Fat Street. Walking from the MTR Fortress Hill Station along Oil Street and Electric Road to Watson Road, then entering at the East Coast Park Precinct (Phase 1) takes about nine minutes.
Both precincts are pet-friendly venues. Visitors are welcome to bring along their pets on leashes.
The beautification work of the pedestrian walkway along Shing Sai Road, Kennedy Town, was completed last month. The 1km-long walkway, decorated with paintings and installations by local artist Messy Desk, enhances the connection between the Belcher Bay Promenade and the Central and Western District Promenade.
