​Hong Kong Customs seized about 31 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $26 million at Kwai Chung Customhouse on November 25. 

     Through risk assessment, Customs on that day inspected a consolidated container, transported by sea from Malaysia to Hong Kong, at Kwai Chung Customhouse. There were 11 different consignments inside the container. Upon inspection, Customs officers found a batch of sports shoes inside one of the consignments which had been declared as carrying personal effect. Some of the sports shoes had suspected cocaine concealed inside. The total weight was about 31kg.

     After a follow-up investigation and a controlled delivery operation, Customs officers on November 30 arrested a 44-year-old local woman suspected to be connected with the case in Kwai Chung.

     An investigation is ongoing and the arrested woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
