Statement by Chief Executive cum Chairperson of Committee for Safeguarding National Security of HKSAR on inclusion of interpretation of Hong Kong National Security Law in agenda of Standing Committee of National People's Congress

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPCSC) today (December 27) received the explanation by the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Xia Baolong, as entrusted by the State Council, on the motion to request for interpretation of relevant provisions of the Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (the Hong Kong National Security Law). In this connection, Mr John Lee, in his capacity as the Chief Executive and the Chairperson of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, welcomed and thanked the Central Authorities for accepting his recommendation, requesting the NPCSC to interpret the relevant provisions of the Hong Kong National Security Law, and the NPCSC for including the relevant motion in the agenda.
Mr Lee said he would earnestly await the outcome of NPCSC's deliberation.
