*****************************************************************************
The Under Secretary for Health, Dr Libby Lee, visited Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH) today (December 23) to show her care to the hospitalised children and celebrate Christmas with them early amid a joyful and festival atmosphere.

Accompanied by the Hospital Chief Executive of HKCH, Dr Lee Tsz-leung, Dr Libby Lee met with the parents of the 4-month-old baby girl, Tsz-hei, who underwent a heart transplant operation earlier. She also learned from the medical team about Tsz-hei's latest condition and the huge difficulties encountered during the delivery and transplantation of the heart. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical team for their tremendous efforts in saving Tsz-hei.

She then visited hospitalised children in the haematology and oncology ward and gave them Christmas gifts, wishing them a Merry Christmas and encouraging them to stay brave for the challenges ahead. She also chatted with the ward staff and thanked them for taking good care of the sick children professionally and with love.

Dr Libby Lee said, "As a tertiary referral centre, HKCH handles specifically complex, serious and uncommon paediatric cases requiring multidisciplinary management. Recently, they performed a transplant operation for Tsz-hei in receiving a donor heart from a young Mainland child. HKCH has all along been providing highly professional services with first-class equipment, and is committed to creating a family-friendly environment to relieve the anxiety of child patients and their families. Moreover, HKCH helps establish and co-ordinate a coherent paediatric service network to enhance the quality of healthcare services for children."

Dr Libby Lee also urged parents to arrange seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations for their children without delay, thus enabling them to have early protection and lowering their risks of complications or sequelae in case of infection. She also reminded the public to pay attention to personal hygiene and take anti-epidemic measures vigilantly to protect themselves and others while celebrating Christmas.
