Green Tech Fund approves another project in second round of applications
***************************************************************

The Secretariat of the Green Tech Fund (GTF) said today (December 23) that another project, submitted by a local university, had been approved in the second round of applications, involving a grant of around $5 million. Together with the first round of applications, the GTF has so far approved 22 projects, involving a total grant of around $100 million. The GTF is open for the third round of applications from today to March 14, 2023.

About 100 applications have been received in the second round of applications from December 2021 to February 2022. The research and development (R&D) project approved in this batch involved turning waste into resources by utilising waste glass to replace cement with higher carbon emissions and other raw materials in the production of concrete products, in order to reduce the relevant carbon emissions and minimise the disposal of waste glass.

Relevant details of the R&D project are published on the GTF webpage (www.gtf.gov.hk/en/project_information/approved_projects.html). The project will help promote R&D as well as the application of green technologies in the area of turning waste into resources, thereby expediting the low-carbon transformation in Hong Kong to strive towards the goal of carbon neutrality.

The GTF is open for the third round of applications from today to March 14, 2023. R&D projects that fall into four areas, namely net-zero electricity generation, energy saving and green buildings, green transport, and waste reduction will be accorded priority. The GTF welcomes applications from local public research institutions, R&D centres and private companies to develop low-carbon and green technologies that cater for the needs of Hong Kong's environment and market. The GTF Secretariat will organise a webinar on January 18, 2023, to introduce the application procedures and priority themes of the GTF. Details are available on the GTF website (www.gtf.gov.hk).
