Fatal traffic accident in Ma On Shan

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Ma On Shan this afternoon (December 22) in which a 71-year-old man died.

     At around 1.51pm, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 42-year-old man reportedly knocked down the 71-year-old man when it reversed on Hang Shun Street.

     The 71-year-old man was trapped under the MGV and rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious injuries to his legs, the man was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 2.28pm.

     The MGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.

     Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 1344.

     Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behavior of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens one’s personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.
