Hongkong Post to issue "Year of the Rabbit" special stamps (with photos)

     Ringing in the rabbit for a bright year to come, Hongkong Post announced today (December 19) that Lunar New Year special stamps and associated philatelic products with the theme "Year of the Rabbit" will be released for sale on January 10, 2023 (Tuesday). A "Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals - Tiger/Rabbit", "Silver Hot Foil Lunar New Year Animal Stamps - Rat/Ox/Tiger/Rabbit" and "Twelve Animals of the Lunar New Year Cycle Stamp Sheetlet" will be issued on the same day, adding a festive ambience to the new year.
 
     In 2023, Hongkong Post will present the 12th issue in its fourth Lunar New Year special stamp series, "Year of the Rabbit". This set of four stamps and a stamp sheetlet feature the propitious rabbit in different traditional handicrafts, heralding the Year of the Rabbit full of blessing and bliss. Hongkong Post has been issuing the fourth Lunar New Year special stamp series since 2012. The "Year of the Rabbit" special stamps will draw this special stamp series to a perfect close.
 
     For the "Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals - Tiger/Rabbit" with reddish orange as the key tone, the background is filled with reliefs of tree peonies, bringing a strong festive ambience. The tiger and rabbit on the stamps are exquisitely finished in silver foil and gold plating respectively, wishing people peace and prosperity in the year ahead.
 
     Hongkong Post presented its first and second sets of silver hot foil stamps on Lunar New Year Animals, with the themes of "Dragon/Snake/Horse/Ram" and "Monkey/Rooster/Dog/Pig", in 2015 and 2019 respectively. With quality printing, the issues were highly popular among philatelists. Hongkong Post now releases the third set of silver hot foil stamps for "Rat/Ox/Tiger/Rabbit", drawing the fourth Lunar New Year special stamp series to a perfect end. Printed in lithography with silver hot foil stamping and an embossing effect, the zodiac animals glitter and shine, adding festive ambience to the new year.
 
     In addition, "Twelve Animals of the Lunar New Year Cycle Stamp Sheetlet" featuring all 12 Lunar New Year animals in handicrafts will be issued on the same day, lending an ambience of joyous festivity of the new year, and will certainly be a perfect gift for collectors.

     The official first day covers for the "Year of the Rabbit" and official souvenir covers for the "Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals - Tiger/Rabbit", "Silver Hot Foil Lunar New Year Animal Stamps - Rat/Ox/Tiger/Rabbit" and "Twelve Animals of the Lunar New Year Cycle Stamp Sheetlet" will be put on sale at all post offices and on Hongkong Post's online shopping mall ShopThruPost (shopthrupost.hongkongpost.hk) from tomorrow (December 20). Prestige versions of the aforesaid covers will be available at all philatelic offices and ShopThruPost on the same day.
 
     This set of special stamps and associated philatelic products will be available at all post offices and ShopThruPost from January 10, 2023. Prestige versions of official first day covers/Lunar New Year animal souvenir covers, serviced first day covers/Lunar New Year animal souvenir covers, prestige versions of serviced first day covers/Lunar New Year animal souvenir covers, postage prepaid Lunar New Year greeting cards and "Heartwarming Stamps" mini-panes will be available at philatelic offices only, while red packets will be available from December 20 at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office only.
 
     A hand-back date-stamping service will be provided on January 10, 2023, at all post offices for official first day covers/souvenir covers/privately made covers bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. To observe social distancing and to avoid people gathering at the post offices, collection points will be set up at all post offices on the same day for submission of the covers requesting the hand-back date-stamping service. Customers will be advised of the collection schedule upon acceptance of the covers.

​     Furthermore, a newly designed 2023 souvenir cover will be available at all philatelic offices and on Hongkong Post's online shopping mall ShopThruPost (shopthrupost.hongkongpost.hk) from December 20.
