Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North happened today (December 16) morning in which a 52-year-old man and a 64-year-old man died.

     At 9.18 am, a bus driven by a 28-year-old man was travelling along Tung Chung Eastern Interchange towards Tung Chung. When approaching Yu Tung Road, it reportedly collided with a stationary medium goods vehicle (MGV). The MGV skidded forward and hit a light goods vehicle (LGV) parked ahead and rammed into two men and two women who were involved in cleansing roadworks.

     The 52-year-old LGV driver was trapped under the MGV and rescued by firemen. Sustaining multiple injuries, he was rushed to North Lantau Hospital in unconscious state. He was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital and certified dead at 1.22pm. The 64-year-old MGV driver sustained multiple injuries and was certified dead at scene. The 58-year-old woman and the 51-year-old woman, who sustained pelvic and limbs injuries respectively, were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in conscious states.

     Besides, a 73-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman who were on the MGV, as well as two male and four female bus passengers, aged between 28 and 94, were slightly injured and sent to Princess Margaret Hospital and North Lantau Hospital for medical treatments.

     The 28-year old male bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is still being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
