The Fisheries Hall located at the Lions Nature Education Centre at Tsiu Hang, Sai Kung, reopened today (December 16) upon completion of its revamp.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Dr Leung Siu-fai, said, "In addition to providing the latest information on Hong Kong fisheries, the renovation of the Fisheries Hall also introduces more multimedia and interactive elements to showcase the local fisheries with models, specimens, animations and interactive games."

The Fisheries Hall features three thematic exhibition areas introducing the fisheries history of Hong Kong, the current situation of capture and aquaculture fisheries, and the development of modern aquaculture operations. Five mascots of the hall - Mr Chinese Bahaba, Golden Threadfin Bream, Blackspot Tuskfish, Snubnose Pompano and Grey Mullet - are the iconic species of the local capture and aquaculture fisheries. They will guide visitors around the hall to learn about the local fisheries from multiple perspectives.

Diverse exhibits are on display in the Fisheries Hall. Fishing vessel models and three miniature models (including a traditional marine fish farm, a semi-submersible steel truss cage farm and the Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market) clearly depict the modes of operation of the local capture and culture fisheries and wholesale functions of fisheries produce. Furthermore, the transparent fish specimen exhibition showcases the unique shapes and skeletal arrangements of various fish species. In addition, visitors can experience the daily routine of a fish farmer through multimedia interactive games.

The Fisheries Hall is now open to the public. Detailed information about the hall has been uploaded to the website of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department: www.afcd.gov.hk/english/fisheries/fish_edu/fish_hall.html.
