Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum 2022 promotes cultural co-operation in Asian economies (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The highlight of the Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum 2022 (ACCF), the Hybrid Ministerial Panel, was held this afternoon (December 14). Cultural ministers and senior officials of 15 Asian countries participated in the Ministerial Panel. They exchanged ideas and shared views on boosting cultural co-operation. The Ministerial Panel enabled Hong Kong in unleashing our role as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, and making Hong Kong a cultural hub connecting the country with the world.

The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Hu Heping, addressed today's Ministerial Panel while other participating cultural ministers and senior officials from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Laos, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam also took turns to speak.

The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, said in his opening speech at the Ministerial Panel that "Our country has indicated clear support for Hong Kong to develop into an East‑meets‑West centre for international cultural exchange. This not only expresses our country's aspiration for Hong Kong and her full recognition of our vibrant arts and cultural development over the years, but also offers unlimited development opportunities to the arts and cultural sectors in Hong Kong."

Mr Yeung added that, "Building on the strong foundation of previous policies for the development of cultural and creative industries, our Chief Executive has unveiled in his first Policy Address a series of new measures to take the development of arts, culture and creative industries to a new height. The key aims are to provide even better opportunity for training arts and creative talents, for showcasing their creative productions and expand their reaches both locally and outside of Hong Kong.  Ultimately, we hope to create a vibrant and healthy ecology for the arts, culture and creative sectors to thrive."

A virtual platform has been set up for the first time as a means to break the constraints of time and space and encourage participation.

In addition, Mr Yeung hosted a Pre-concert Gala Dinner and officiated at the opening of the Gala concert for the delegations and local cultural leaders. The performance in the evening showcased a blend of Chinese and Western traditional and contemporary music, with multi-media visual effects, showcasing to the guests Hong Kong's position as a cultural melting pot of East and West, and the diversified and uniqueness of Hong Kong's arts talents.

The delegations visited the Hong Kong Palace Museum yesterday (December 13), and the M+ Museum of the West Kowloon Cultural District this morning. They will attend the Hybrid Plenary "Revitalisation and Conservation of Historical Heritage" and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council Roundtable. They will also visit Pokfulam Village and Art@Harbour tomorrow (December 15).

ACCF was launched in 2003 with an aim of fostering regional cultural co-operation, sharing good practices and promoting culture and the arts.
