Update on cluster of Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae cases at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority.

     Regarding the recent announcement on a cluster of patients confirmed as having Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in a medical ward, the spokesperson for Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital gave the following update today (December 14):
 
     The hospital has conducted a screening and confirmed another 64-year-old female patient as a carrier of CPE. She had passed away today due to her underlying disease.
 
     The ward concerned will continue to adopt the following enhanced infection control measures:
 
  1. Enhanced patient and environmental screening procedures;
  2. Continue to apply stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene for staff and patients; and
  3. Enhanced cleaning and disinfection of the environment and facilities of the ward.
 
     The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation in the ward concerned. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
