***********************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

As at yesterday (December 11), a total of 3 766 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are hospitalised for treatment. Among the hospitalised confirmed patients, 475 were new patients, 2 541 required isolation, 382 required oxygen therapy and 38 required ventilator support. There were 10 newly reported critical patients and 18 newly reported serious patients. There were a total of 80 patients in critical condition and 108 in serious condition, of which 27 critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there were 291 patients who have recovered, including 247 patients who have been discharged. In addition, 25 patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.

The overall occupancy of medical beds in acute hospitals is around 107 per cent.

In the past week, there were 553 COVID-19 patients who reside in residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) admitted to hospitals. The number is continuously higher than the 358 and 341 RCHE COVID-19 patients admitted in the first week of December and the fourth week of November respectively. The Hospital Authority (HA) is very concerned and will closely monitor the situation. The HA will keep close communication with relevant government departments and RCHEs so as to enhance medical support to RCHEs through the outreach teams.

The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
