Results of the Imagine Your Play Spaces - Design Competition for Public Play Spaces, co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD), were announced today (December 10) with a prize award ceremony held at the City Gallery, Central. The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Vincent Liu, and the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Edward Tse, presented the awards to the winning teams.

The Competition aimed to collect innovative design ideas and concepts for the transformation of the children's playgrounds of the Ap Lei Chau Park and the Po Wing Road Playground into public play spaces (PPSs) that are more attractive, user-inclusive, challenging and fun to play with, offering flexibility in creative play, as well as integration and harmonisation with the surrounding environment and local culture.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr Liu said that the winning entries all showcased their extraordinary creativity and professionalism. The Ap Lei Chau Park featured with dolphin, promoted an educational message of marine conservation, while the design of Po Wing Road Playground incorporated many new play elements.

Meanwhile, Mr Tse said that this design competition had two aims. Apart from collecting innovative design proposals for transforming the two PPSs into more attractive and playful venues, it was also hoped that it could offer more chances to designers, especially the younger generation, to participate in public works projects through this competition.

The Competition received 29 entries from the architectural, engineering, landscape, planning and surveying professions. The winning entries included a first prize, second prize and third prize, and two commendation entries in each category. These were selected by the jury panel composed of members from the organising departments, professional institutes and children's play association. Both of the first prizes offered design themes with playful and diversified play elements for different ages, abilities and preferences.

Members of the public can view the list of the winners and their design proposals at the Competition webpage (imagineplayspacesdesigncompetition.hk). All winning entries will also be on public display at Queensway Government Offices, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Tsuen Wan Sports Centre from January to March 2023 during a specified period.
