***********************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

As at yesterday (December 7), a total of 3 248 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are hospitalised for treatment. Among the hospitalised confirmed patients, 452 were new patients, 2 180 required isolation, 354 required oxygen therapy and 29 required ventilator support. There were 12 newly reported critical patients and 22 newly reported serious patients. There were a total of 76 patients in critical condition and 95 in serious condition, of which 20 critical patients were receiving intensive care. Moreover, there were 384 patients who have recovered, including 311 patients who have been discharged. In addition, 27 patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.

The Hospital Authority (HA) has reviewed the preliminary statistics of the past week (November 30 to December 6). Among the COVID-19 patients admitted through accident and emergency departments, around 63 per cent were admitted due to COVID-19 infection, while around 37 per cent were admitted due to other medical reasons. For deceased COVID-19 patients, around 70 per cent potentially died of COVID-19, while around 30 per cent died from other illnesses. The HA will continue analysing the statistics concerned so as to provide appropriate services in accordance with the situation and patient needs.

The overall occupancy of medical beds in acute hospitals is around 103 per cent.

In response to the increasing number of confirmed cases in the community, the HA will strengthen the service capacity of seven HA designated clinics for COVID-19 confirmed cases (designated clinics) and tele-consultation services to provide medical support for confirmed patients in the community.

In order to focus manpower and resources to further enhance designated clinic and tele-consultation services, Shau Kei Wan Jockey Club General Out-patient Clinic, Yau Ma Tei Jockey Club General Out-patient Clinic, Lady Trench General Out-patient Clinic and Shek Wu Hui Jockey Club General Out-patient Clinic will adjust services from tomorrow (December 9), while Shun Lee General Out-patient Clinic will adjust services from December 12. Details of the service adjustment arrangements of the clinics concerned together with the service adjustment arrangements of other General Out-patient Clinics announced earlier are set out in Annex.

Chronic patients with follow-up appointments at the clinics concerned are advised to refill their drugs at the corresponding medication refill clinics on the appointment day by presenting their appointment slips and identity cards. The HA hopes the community will understand these arrangements.

The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
