Government receives preliminary report on Tseung Kwan O Line train incident from MTR Corporation Limited

      In relation to the MTR Tseung Kwan O Line train incident on December 5, the Government requested the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a preliminary report within three days (i.e. today) and a detailed report within two months (i.e. no later than February 4 next year) respectively of the incident. The Government received today (December 8) the preliminary report submitted by the MTRCL to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.

     A spokesperson for the Transport and Logistics Bureau said that the preliminary report gave an account of the incident and initial findings on its cause. The MTRCL also reported the immediate incident handling and follow-up work. The Government is examining the report and will closely monitor the MTRCL's follow-up work.

     The MTRCL is conducting a detailed investigation into the incident and will formulate relevant improvement measures and implementation plan. Relevant government departments will take part in it.

     The spokesperson said, "The MTRCL is duty-bound to provide safe and reliable railway services. The Government is deeply concerned about the recent railway incidents. Besides the investigation into the incidents, the MTRCL should commence the in-depth and thorough review on asset management and maintenance regime as soon as possible, in order to assess the potential risks in different areas of the railway system in a comprehensive manner and prevent the occurrence of incidents."
