​The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) announced that the HoHoSkips service for construction waste collection and recycling has been extended to Hong Kong Island, Kwun Tong, Tseung Kwan O and Tuen Mun from today (December 1). Members of the public and the renovation trade can book, through the mobile application "HoHoSkips", the services of recyclers to collect small quantities of construction waste generated from renovation works in these districts for recycling.

     A spokesman for the EPD said that, with the support of the Recycling Fund, the trade-led pilot scheme on collection and recycling of construction waste was launched in early 2021. The service was rolled out in Sham Shui Po District, through the setting up of convenient collection points and the application of a "HoHoSkips" app to provide booking service. The renovation trade and members of the public are provided with a convenient, time-saving and efficient construction waste collection service. Since December 2021, the service has been extended to cover 10 districts in Kowloon and the New Territories, including Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin, Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing, Yuen Long, Sha Tin, Tai Po and North District.

     Starting today, the EPD has extended the service to Hong Kong Island, Kwun Tong, Tseung Kwan O and Tuen Mun, so that small-scale renovation practitioners and members of the public can also book the service via the "HoHoSkips" app to arrange the collection of small quantities of construction waste in these districts. With the reduction of transportation and disposal costs through bulk transfer and segregation of waste, the HoHoSkips service providers only charge $71 per tonne of recyclable inert construction waste and $200 per tonne of non-inert construction waste. The EPD expects that through encouraging more practitioners in the trade to use the service, cost-effectiveness of the service would be further enhanced.

     The "HoHoSkips" app can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Members of the public and the renovation trade are welcome to install and use the app. For more information about the HoHoSkips scheme, please visit the dedicated website hohoskips.hk.
