LegCo Panel on Commerce, Industry, Innovation and Technology visits Hong Kong Science Park (with photos)

     The Legislative Council Panel on Commerce, Industry, Innovation and Technology visited the Hong Kong Science Park (HKSP) today (November 28) to better understand the work of the HKSP in propelling the development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology (I&T) industry and supporting start-up companies.

     Members first received a briefing by the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Mr Albert Wong, on the latest developments of HKSTP and the city's I&T ecosystem.

     Members also met with representatives of partner companies of the HKSP to learn about the technological solutions and products developed by local I&T start-up companies. They also exchanged views on how to nurture home-grown I&T talents and attract quality professionals from abroad.

     Members then visited the Biomedical Technology Support Centre and labs in the HKSP. They were briefed by representatives of the Institute for Translational Research on its work to expedite the translation of biomedical technologies. Members also took the opportunity to discuss with representatives of HKSTP on how to further integrate I&T into industrial development with a view to promoting re-industrialization in Hong Kong.

     Members participating in the visit were the Panel Chairman, Mr Shiu Ka-fai; the Deputy Chairman, Dr Tan Yueheng; and Panel member Mr Duncan Chiu, as well as non-Panel members Ms Elizabeth Quat, Mr Kenneth Lau, Mr Stanley Li, Ms Judy Chan and Dr Ngan Man-yu.
