Application for rental of market stalls at Sunlight Market in Tung Chung to open tomorrow
***************************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today (November 28) that rental of market stalls at Sunlight Market (formerly known as Tung Chung Temporary Market) in Tung Chung will be open for application starting tomorrow (November 29).

The FEHD spokesman said, "Sunlight Market is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2023. The FEHD will be the landlord of the temporary market and is responsible for determining the rental level and signing agreements with tenants. We will make reference to the experience of the FEHD Skylight Market and introduce a new management model including strengthening the role of the service contractor in managing the market, e.g. formulating market promotion and development strategies, engagement and collaboration with stakeholders and making proposals on the trade mix of the market, with a view to enhancing the business vibrancy and meeting the needs of the public. The FEHD has engaged a service contractor through open tender to help carry out the daily management and operation of the market."

Sunlight Market is located at Fu Tung Street near Tung Chung MTR Station and will provide a total of 36 market stalls which will be open for application from November 29 to December 19 and allocated by computer balloting.

The 36 stalls will be categorised into Group A and Group B. There will be a total of 24 stalls under Group A and the permitted commodities to be sold will include cooked food, fresh meat, frozen/chilled meat, fish, siu mei/lo mei, fruits, vegetables and food related dry goods. There will be a total of 12 stalls under Group B and the permitted commodities to be sold will include fruits, vegetables, food related dry goods, non-food related dry goods and other food related wet goods.

Applicants should be aged 18 or above and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong. Those applicants with at least three years' experience in the operation of a relevant market stall may apply for a stall under Group A, while other applicants may apply for a stall under Group B.

To support local employment on Lantau Island, if an eligible applicant for rental of a stall under Group B is a local resident of Lantau Island, the applicant will be given an additional "ballot paper" under that category to enhance the chance of a successful ballot exercise.

Starting from tomorrow, application forms can be downloaded from the FEHD website (www.fehd.gov.hk) or obtained at the District Environmental Hygiene Offices. The completed application form together with supporting documents shall be delivered at or before 6pm on December 19 by fax (2545 2964), email (tcmkt@fehd.gov.hk), in person or by post to the Islands District Environmental Hygiene Office. Applicants can also fill in the online application form and submit the application online. Late applications will not be accepted.

The priority order of eligible applicants in selecting a market stall for rental will be generated by open computer balloting. The date of ballot is scheduled for January 9, 2023. The result will be uploaded onto the FEHD website (www.fehd.gov.hk) on the next day after the computer balloting for checking by the applicants. The FEHD will subsequently issue letters to notify successful applicants of the stall rental arrangements.
