Fun day of shared path along Victoria Harbour held today (with photos)
**********************************************************************
The Harbourfront Commission (HC) and the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (November 27) held the Fun Day of Shared Path along Victoria Harbour at the harbourfront promenade between Central and Wan Chai to promote the shared-use cycle track (shared path) which has been implemented on a trial basis.

Speaking at the kick-off session, the Chairman of the HC, Mr Vincent Ng, said that the commission has strived in recent years to bring vibrancy and diversity to the harbourfront by enabling the public to enjoy harbourfront spaces according to their own preferences with mutual respect. At present, the 2-kilometre-long harbourfront promenade on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island can be used for cycling and various other activities.  There are also cycle tracks along the coast of Kowloon in the West Kowloon Cultural District, Tsing Yi Promenade and Tsuen Wan waterfront. Cycle tracks will be implemented at more harbourfront sites in future, so as to gradually achieve the vision of developing a network of shared paths on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

Different from the traditional cycle tracks, the shared path at harbourfront encourages pedestrians and cyclists to harmoniously share the spaces. The CEDD has implemented the first shared path at the promenade section between the Central Harbourfront Event Space and west of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre since August on a trial basis for a year to collect data and feedback for facilities enhancement. Bicycles free to rent are available for the public using a mobile app at the bicycle stations at the shared path. More than 6 800 borrowings have been recorded so far.

The fun day offered an array of enjoyable activities. Apart from cyclist Wong Kam-po and cycling coach Chau Dor-ming sharing safety information on using the shared path at the kick-off session, there were artistic and unicycling performances, as well as various activities on cycling-related experiences and games.
